Allison May - Biography

About the Artist

Allison May is a self-taught artist whose paintings utilize color and movement to express a sense of awe and reverence for water, land and sky. Working primarily in watercolor or gouache, she finds joy in the movement and spontaneity of watercolor and in the intense color saturation of traditional gouache. Fine art painting has become a passion of hers just in the past few years, and her personal style is still evolving. The enchantment of open skies and water and all of its varied presentations have recently begun to dominate her work. Allison has traveled the United States extensively and has taken thousands of photographs during her travels, upon which she draws inspiration in her home studio. Her many trips to the Emerald Coast, in particular, have instilled in her a love and devotion to our oceans and marine life.

Allison May is a Tennessee native with a background as an environmental science educator in the mountains, prairies, and deserts of the American West, where she fell in love with big skies and endless vistas. She is currently living close to family and serving her home community in her second career as a health care provider in Nashville, TN. She is a member of the Tennessee Watercolor Society. Allison hopes to inspire others through her art- to take in the beauty of the natural world, to be present with it and let it move and shape you in your daily life.
